Huge success today!!

Last week i was able to create and implement my self-signed ssl cert for my web server... but big deal! it really wasn't securing anything :(

So, today, i finally figured out how to:
- use the htpasswd utility,
- create .htaccess files and put them in the directories you want to secure, and
- edit the httpd.conf file to have Apache use those files (.htaccess files).

Wow! What a relief!!

Obedience

Ever notice how no matter how large or small the act of disobedience... how it causes such strife in your life?

I guess that's why they say, when you accept Christ as your saviour, you are FREE to live for Him... And how living in obedience is such a wonderful existence.

Don't we all need to remember that the next time we're faced with temptation.

good deal... finished chapter 2 in the web design xhtml book today. should get assigned chapter 1 tomorrow and I'll have a week to get it done. i love working ahead and eliminating stress/pressure/deadlines!

Can't wait to start chapter 3 on css's... something i'm definitely weak on! especially since the new dreamweaver works predominately with css's :( Can't wait to get a grip on this topic.

I suppose that's why it's a good idea to continually learn new stuff... because it's a lot easier than taking 6 years off... then trying to play catch-up.

Went to Promise Keepers today. What a moving experience! There must've been 5000 people at First Baptist Church of Orlando. A day to remember! LOTS of people were saved and gave their lives to Christ (prob over 100). Praise God!!

Joe's Retirement Dinner

We're getting ready to have several couples over this evening to celebrate my good friend, Joe Hartman's retirement. He's been a SF agent forever, and is now moving into the next phase of his/their life.

I'm giving him a Life Principle Bible... a Bible I LOVE!!! Hope he reads it.

Messed around with Webmin today... initial thoughts... what a cool utility!

I suppose it's admirable to be able to do all that Apache stuff from the command-line?!? But, once you get that all figured out, i think it would be verrrryyyyy cool to get to use Webmin at work... Assuming i actually got to do most of that stuff at work.

Lol... my admin features that would actually be enabled in webadmin at work would be about... oh, let's say... about 3 or 4 of the 200. Oh well. One day ;)

Bluefish - What a freakn' joke

Okay, so... today was the 3rd time i've tried to install Bluefish on linux... this time not exclusively with the command-line... i thought i'd try to use the X Windows stuff to see if it would somehow take care of some of the dependencies, or something?!?

Anyway, that still didn't go well. What a joke it is to install that software... now i know why no one's ever heard of it?!? Sure makes me glad there are software companies out there who actually build and installable product!!! Even if they charge you an arm and a leg. Hey, it's worth it. What good is free software it you can't install it?!?

So, then I thought... well, maybe it's just Bluefish on Linux?!? So I tried to install it on Windows 7. It's still a freakin' joke!

Bottom line: all those Bluefish developers are freakin' delirious! What an achedemic exercise for them! Why do they even bother?!?

I'm usually too tired, or too brain-dead, at night to read the Bible... or at least that's my excuse. But last night, since Jan was out of town, i read a few Proverbs right before going to bed. It's amazing how God talks to you when you are obedient.

I think i'll try it more often :)

Now it's time for my morning reading. Can't wait to get my day started glorifying Him.

Okay, so what's the big difference between my personal blog like this one... and a facebook account where the person completely wears you out by posting every thought/feeling they have?

I suppose facebook gets blasted as a notification to all of their "friends" ROFL... whereas these blog postings remain relatively hidden (unless someone accidentally trips into them)

bi-polar, mean, lazy, depression... i understand all of those, and i can deal with them and/or emphasize.

But i really don't get passive-aggressive?!? how you can say one thing, but so blatently get in the way of progress at the same time. Very frustrating to be associated with someone like that!

And then, when they know they've gone too far... how they have to be all nice to recover?!? it just doesn't work. Doesn't make sense to me :(

Webalizer - Apache's Cool Traffic Graffer

If you're interested, here's a cool little utility that comes with Fedora/Apache... Webalizer!

So, earlier today, i pointed my bradsteimel.com domain to the outside ip address of my modem/router... so now you can browse to www.bradsteimel.com and port 80 goes to one linux/apache server, and port 81 goes to my other. Very cool.

But back to the point... webalizer. So check this out: http://bradsteimel.com:81/webalizer-usage

That's all, really. I just thought it was cool... maybe because it took a little tinkering to make it work ;)

First week of class at SSC

Okay, why does every web design, web application, web development, web *anything* book feel compelled to insert the vanilla "Chapter 1" that always says to same, high-level, boring, mundane stuff? LOL.

Anyway... this is my first blog post.

Hey, but the good news is... this text book is at least somewhat current! My summer class with a professor who used an 8-year old text book!! Really, a computer class that uses a text book that's 8 years old?!? For real, when was the last time you used a floppy disk? Or better yet, have you ever even seen one? That's my point. ARG...
